I was new to the school last year and was not sure how to implement/encourage students to join Fuel Up to Play 60 and 100 Mile Club. The students did a great job encouraging friends throughout the school year to join and participate. By the end of the year our numbers had tripled and we had 1/4 of the students get over 75 miles for the year. The students did a great job encouraging each other and working together to become more fit.

What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?

Being new to the school, everything was new to me. It took time to organize and figure out how to implement the plays that I inherited and how to get the students more involved. Once the students were involved they led the play along with me and encouraged new students to join.

How did you accomplish your goals?

We accomplished our goals by tracking laps finished with popsicle sticks. Students collected the sticks every lap and then turned them in at the end to get their laps that they completed that day.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

This is the third year we are implementing the running club. Every year more and more students join because they see the fun they are having and like the challenge of getting over 100 miles.
