Physical Activity Participation, Student Leadership, Success with Funds
Here at River Bluff Middle School we have an Engagement Day once a quarter. This is where the students get an opportunity to learn new activities, cultures, foods, jobs and hobbies. I was able to get a grant last year to start the 100 mile club and to snack smarter at school. The Fuel Up and Play 60 team used this grant to offer fruit smoothies for students during the activities and to purchase 100 mile club gear. One of the Engagement Day activities was a walking/running route that the students could go during the 2 hours. As a result of the Engagement Day Fruit smoothie table the school now offers fruit smoothies for lunch and we had 1 student who reached the goal of 100 miles of walking/running for the school year.
How did students and adults work together as a team?
The students selected the menu and then they had fun making the smoothies.
How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?
It's already started. The school nutritionist and administration has decided to offer fruit smoothies for breakfast and lunch.
