A running club was organized for students to increase their physical activity and their awareness of the importance of cardiovascular exercise while doing something they love to do, like run. The club meets once a week every Wednesday and is open to students in grades 2nd -5th. Currently the club has 11 members since the start of the school year when we only had 9 signed up to participate. As the sponsor of running club I expose my students to running, Fun Runs, 5k, weight training, and circuit training as well. My students are the success story as they have leaned up and built up their muscular strength and stamina to pass assessments like the FitnessGram components.
How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?
My club is now an official club that students can register to become part of at the beginning of each school year and has been so for three years now since I started it. My goal each year is to grow by at least two students and to keep promoting health by running, lifting, and training with a group that provides support and encouragement.
