Our campus has active students!! They just needed some help recognizing how often they are active. I think, just like adults, the students were getting bogged down by the "minutes" they needed each day. When we discussed how to look for the "little" time chunks during the day they were surprised at how often they were active. Recess is a great example. Kids are creative, they want to have fun, so, put them together with recess, and they created great activities to keep them active and fun at the same time. Every little bit counts!
How did you accomplish your goals?
Our campus provides equipment and freedom to be creative at recess. The teachers encourage the students to run around, create a new game, or play a favorite!
How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?
The hope is that the students will return next school year with the knowledge that every little bit helps. Our returning students can help get the message to any new students, and in kindergarten we will lay the foundation for this concept!
How did students and adults work together as a team?
Through discussion, trial and error, and communicating needs the adults and students were more successful at accomplishing our goal...movement!
