Community Involvement
We started a club whose mission is to do good deeds and help others in need. Our first activity was to raise money for the hurricane victims in Puerto Rico with an event called "Pop for Puerto Rico". Students could buy a balloon for $1.00. It had a ticket in it that designated a prize they could win.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

A student came to me and asked me if I would sponsor a club focused on helping others. On her own and in partnership with the Red Cross she had already raised a substantial amount of money. We then advertised the club, got some members and began planning a school event to raise money for Puerto Rico. Students came up with the idea and met with the VP to arrange permission.

How did you accomplish your goals?

We mapped out a plan and gave everyone in the group a task. We made a timeline and stuck to it. We used group time to blow up the balloons and fill them with tickets and we sold them the following day at lunch.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

The group continues to look for good deeds and ways to help others. We have painted rocks with positive says to add to our rock garden. We called it "Peace Rocks". Now we will sell flowers for Valentine's Day or raise money for teacher supplies (students choice of what to do and where the money would go).
