I was very excited for our students and how they tried really hard to focus on their cardiovascular health with running. We focus on cardio workouts at least two times during each week throughout the year. Along with that we use pedometers to track students steps and we are able to convert that to miles. Students work hard to compete against each other to see who can run the most in a week. This helped a lot of students to be able to reach their goal of 100 miles.
What improvements have you seen at your school?
I have seen the student participation increase with the different running activities we do throughout the school year. We also have games that we play that incorporates running and the students don't even realize they are running because they are so competitive and they are trying to win their game. Students have realized that running can be fun and not just the boring run laps around a gym or the track.
How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?
I really believe that this is something we can keep moving forward in our Physical Education classes because we will always be looking to get cardiovascular activities or games involved in our classes. With the running we did this year, students will already know what to expect when they start next school year. As long as we can keep it fun for the students they will give good effort during the runs and games we play. Using pedometers is a big help with tracking data for the students too.
