Breakfast For Everyone — First Meal Matters

Students at our school participate in several Fuel Up to Play 60 activities. They range from eating breakfast in the classrooms to classroom Brain Breaks to help break the monotony. We also engage in recess on a daily basis and encourage and support our PE department with exercising through dance. Our 4 and 5 year olds have a great time listening to music in the morning so music and movement occurs school wide.

What improvements have you seen at your school?

We have kids more actively engaged in the morning. So many of them do not get the nutrients they need at home, so breakfast in the classroom gives them the time they need to eat.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

Our Program Advisors coordinate activities that range from music and movement through PE and our fine arts department to our classroom teachers giving brain breaks to allow students to sing and dance.

How did you accomplish your goals?

We accomplished our goals by working as a unit. Teamwork is emphasized and healthy living is a priority. We are here to build a foundation with our 4 and 5 year olds. We want them to move forward recognizing how they feel when they eat and exercise correctly.
