Physical Activity Participation
Our students were given tables under a beautiful shade for them to relax during recess, we noticed that our students began sitting instead of exercising. To motivate students to be active, we asked students to be an Exercise Buddy. The Exercise Buddies go by and remind and encourage students to try different games or activities. We have also started the Healthy Hero and Fitness Hero (Sir Walk A Lot) by rewarding students with extra play time. We have also worked with encouraging students to eat breakfast and lunch and drink milk. During our Health lesson, students are encouraged to try different fruits in different forms. We show them how to incorporate fruits in smoothies, using milk or yogurt products. We have made excellent progress in minimizing junk food in our school

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

The way we plan to accomplish our goal of keeping students participating in recess is by bringing out more equipment. We believe that students are attracted to different types of equipment and by continuously changing and bringing more equipment to the playground the students will get motivated.

What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?

Our biggest challenge is the equipment. Most of our equipment ends up over the fence, due to the proximity to a major road. Every year we lose at least a dozen balls over the fence. We are working on keeping our students away from that area but things do happen. I also purchase from my own money different pieces of equipment but cost does add up. We are given a budget but with high prices it is extremely hard to buy big pieces of equipment.
