Access to Healthy Foods

Our campus is a part of an exotic fruit program. With this program, every Tuesday and Thursday students get background information on the exotic fruit of the day. They learn about it, ask questions and get to eat a piece. They have learned so much about fruit in our community as well as other places. This has shown them a new way to enjoy fruit, but it has also provided them an opportunity to explore. In speaking with teachers, they feel students are more apt to try new things. Almost all students will try the exotic fruits, even though sometimes they don't look appealing.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

Teachers taught about the exotic fruit, and the students enjoyed eating and discussing the fruit together.
