We were able to arrange a field trip in which we took our 7th grade student body to two farms in our community. The first farm focused on the growing of foods and raising beef cows. The second farm was a dairy farm and taught students about the process of getting milk to the stores. Students learned a lot about where our food comes from and all of the work that it takes to get these items into the grocery stores for us to buy. GREAT DAY!
How did students and adults work together as a team?
The Program Advisors and school Ambassador worked to coordinate details with the farmers in our area. We were lucky to be able to take close to 250 students to the farms to meet our local farmers and see what they do every day.
How did you accomplish your goals?
Our goal was to show students the time, work, and effort that goes into providing us with our everyday food. I think many students were surprised at the process and the steps that have to happen before it actually makes it to the grocery market shelves.
How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?
Our hope is to have this field trip continue annually so we are giving this opportunity to many of our students.
