Our school is lucky to have a great group of people that give the students a chance to eat locally grown food. The Hutterites in our area grow potatoes, watermelon, corn, and other fruits and vegetables that our school lunch program uses. This is a great way for our students to realize that our locally grown food is something they can do with their family as well.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

With our food service, our students helped with lunch. They worked together to talk about where and how food is grown.

What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?

The challenge we face is that we live in a place where you cannot grow food year-round, so we eat fresh and local in the fall, but less fresh and local foods as the year goes on.
