Farm to School in Montana

Monforton School started Farm to School during the 2016-2017 school year. Thanks to FUPTP 60 we were able to have the program throughout the entire school year, which involved nearly 500 students in Kindergarten through 8th grade! From field trips to local farms, monthly taste tests and classroom lessons, students learned about locally harvested foods each month!

How did you accomplish your goals?

We were able to extend our Farm to School Program throughout the entire year thanks to FUTP 60! Each month a local, healthy food was served in the school cafeteria for all students to try during lunch. Additionally, classroom lessons were provided for students to investigate the food hands-on and discover the nutritional value it had. Monthly recipes were sent home to encourage parents to serve healthy foods. We had an overwhelming success with Farm to School and are continuing it this year!
