Farm to School, Physical and Mental Health

At Tug Valley High School, we have implemented several programs to encourage physical and mental wellness. We use fresh crops grown by our agriculture students. Our students have the opportunity to participate in intramural sports during lunch, and recently a student leadership group, GLOW, implemented two mental health and suicide prevention initiatives.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

Students involved with GLOW scheduled a meeting with teachers and administrators to discuss the lack of information on mental health. The team of teachers and students came up with a plan to launch several initiatives to make students aware of mental health issues and help available.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

GLOW plans to continue working with faculty and students to implement more programs.

What improvements have you seen at your school?

We have seen improvement in the areas of mental health. Students now have access to resources that were unavailable to them prior to this year.
