Farm to School Taste Test

We are working with a local organic farm (one of our teacher's husbands is the head of the farm) and we are providing monthly taste tests to our students. Each month, we show them clips of how the item is grown, harvested, and then prepared. After they receive that information, they are able to try the food and then take a short survey on if they liked it.

What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?

Whenever we provide taste tests, it does get complicated because we have 950 students, so food can get pricey. We did receive $500 to support our Farm to School initiative and that really helped it get off the ground.

What improvements have you seen at your school?

Students are more interested in trying foods they have never heard of because we partnered up with a farm that has a direct connection to our school.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

Our students prepared all of the taste tests and they worked with the school teachers to encourage other students to try the taste test and to educate them on how to pass out a taste test.
