We are fortunate to live in an area where farming was huge and still is today. We invited one of our legendary Gilbert farmers in to talk about crop farming. He and his wife brought in lots of props and did a wonderful job explaining crop farming, how much it costs, farming equipment, how farming has changed over the years, ect. We also took a field trip to a local dairy farm. We learned all about dairy cows, how they are fed, how they know they are pregnant, and we saw a baby that was just born :). We also learned how they milk the cows and where all the milk goes. Both of these experiences were free, minus the bus, which our student council paid for. The students and adults learned a lot from both farmers.
