Final Four Cheese Champs

Our middle school students participated in a Final Four March Madness contest. We had our FUTP 60 students pair up the NCAA basketball teams with a type of cheese. The kids started with the sweet sixteen group. In the Finals it was Feta (Villanova) vs. Provolone (UNC). Feta was our champion; all students had an opportunity to try the Feta cheese along with organic cheese curds. We used our grant money to purchase Feta cheese and 20 pounds of cheese curds. The kids loved it!!! The cheese was distributed during their snack break. The student body said they can't wait for next year's challenge. Thanks to FUTP 60 and the WI Milk Marketing Board we were able to cover all costs again with our schoolwide snack break.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

Our student group got all the cups set up and filled each cup with three-four cheese curds and handed them out to their peers. The adults picked up the cheese and help get supplies for the event.

What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?

The minor challenge we faced was sharing a small space with our snack break staff and they were very accommodating, plus we gave them some cheese curds.

What improvements have you seen at your school?

The kids really enjoyed the free cheese curds and have been asking when the next event will be and how can they get involved. One student signed up within a few days of the event just so he could be part of it. The more the merrier!!
