Fit Club for Kids
The Travis Elementary Fit Club was created last year to promote physical activity and fitness after the school day ends. The after school program offers a variety of activities that develop cardiovascular fitness, upper/lower body strength, and core strength. The fit club is offered to Kinder through 5th grade students every Tuesday for a duration of one hour. The staff reinforces life time activities, daily exercise, and healthy eating habits. Both physical education teacher’s volunteer their time to help make the fit club for kids successful and improve the students personal fitness. The Fuel Up to Play 60 program emphasis on 60 minutes of physical activity has helped increase the number of students in our Fit Club and in the number of registered students for the City of Edinburg 10 K and 2 mile fun run. Students steps and mileage are tracked to promote physical activity and fitness at school and at home.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

The after school fit club for kids will continue every year, through the dedication of our physical educators and support from administrative staff. The staff will continue to promote the importance of staying active and instilling healthy eating habits throughout their life. Our plan is to offer the fit club for two days a week as our number of students participates increases.
