Fit for Life
The main focus of the Physical Education department at Edison Middle School is to improve our students' levels of both health and skill related fitness. We do this by having students participate in a 10 minute fitness circuit at the beginning of each class period which consists of a variety of vigorous exercises and stretches that change monthly. One of the fitness stations we've been able to add through a grant awarded by Fuel Up to Play 60 is the conditioning ropes. This piece of exercise equipment is an Edison favorite and has drastically improved our students overall strength and endurance. This is evident by their improvement in fitness scores. In addition to our 10 minutes of fitness, our school has begun implementing monthly fit breaks where students take a break from academics for a few minutes in order to participate in a fitness activity.

What improvements have you seen at your school?

Our Physical Education department has seen improvements in our students’ health and skill related fitness levels. This is evident by the students' fitness test scores. Students have also become more aware of their fitness levels. Through the use of a monthly fitness calendar they are showing how they incorporate activities outside of school in order to improve their level of fitness.
