Fitness Breaks

Darrin Grogan,   Johnson-wabash Elementary School

This year during transitions from different subjects in their classrooms, teachers are using quick physical activity brain breaks. With these breaks, students are becoming more focused in their studies and classroom disruptions have been minimized.

What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?

Getting teachers to buy in was difficult at the beginning. Once a few teachers starting getting results, all the other teachers started following.

How did you accomplish your goals?

By getting 90% of the teachers involved, which in turn got the students to improve.

What improvements have you seen at your school?

Overall school behavior has improved. Students are more excited and test scores are starting to improve.
