The Laura Ward STEM School students grades 3-8 participated in beginning of the year fitness unit. The goals were to increase upper body, abdominal and core strength, flexibility and cardiovascular fitness.
How did you accomplish your goals?
The goals were accomplished through participation in a four week fitness unit by:
Performing as many push ups and sit ups as possible in one minute.
Performing leg muscle stretches and participating in the sit & reach measure.
Increasing distance covered in the 12 minute run.
How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?
We will use a five station circuit (one minute per station) and three minute run as warm up during the school year in PE.
What improvements have you seen at your school?
We have observed students responding to fitness incentives and encouraging their peers to try.
