Fitness Night...Fueling Up Physical Activity
On September 20, 2016, the students of S.S. Dixon Intermediate and their friends and families came together for Fitness Night. Parents, aunts, uncles, grandparents, cousins…you name it…and their students ran the school’s famous “Country Mile”, participated in various fitness stations to learn ways to exercise at home, and enjoyed cooling down on the lawn with a refreshing Kona Ice. In addition, students were able to register with Fuel Up to Play 60 and show their families what Fuel Up is all about. Approximately 550 people attended the fun-filled, fitness event and a great time was had by all. One grandfather in attendance was in “AWE” of the event and couldn’t stop talking about what a wonderful thing this was, not only for Dixon Intermediate, but for the Pace community. Fitness Night was the kick-off event for S.S. Dixon Intermediate’s Running Club which has over 450 students signed up to run and participate in fitness activities each Friday through mid-April. Fitness Night was a huge success to kick off being physically active all year through.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

We are currently promoting a fun run that will be held in our community in December. All proceeds go towards improving our community park that provides for physical activity. We are also in the planning stages of having our students run a marathon by running 25 miles at home with their families and then completing the final 1.2 miles here at school. During the event, people in the community will cheer the kids on for their final mile.
