Food and Fun!

Kim Winkelman,   Robinson El
Access to Healthy Foods,  Community Involvement

We have a big 100 Day celebration at our school, so we offered the children a variety of 100 calorie snacks on the 100th day. It gave the children an opportunity to see how different 100 calorie snacks can be. From a bag of carrots to just one small cookie. We also talked about 100 healthy calories and 100 not so healthy calories. The children enjoyed the snacks and now have a better understanding of reading labels and looking at the calories on the packages.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

We will continue to raise awareness about calories and reading labels. We also have them guess the number of calories in different foods. We also explain to them the process that goes into their meal planning each day, to make sure they are getting the calories that are recommended for their age group.
