The Wrightstown Student Team, the TIGER SQUAD, recently worked with the food service department to plan and execute a food waste study for grades 5th to 8th during lunch. Food Service staff measured all food and milk and students placed waste into labeled bins with help from the student team.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

The student team worked with the food service staff to complete the event as a whole. It was a great learning experience for everyone involved.

How did you accomplish your goals?

Students were able to visualize the amount of waste in a day. Many of the students took items like whole apples and prepackaged dried fruit with them and were encouraged to save for snacking later, instead of discarding it like they normally would.
