In November, the Fuel Up to Play 60 student team hosted their Kick Off event for students in 3rd - 6th grade. Students gathered in the gym, where the Fuel Up to Play 60 student team gave them an overview of the program and described changes their classmates will see in the school. The student team did a fantastic job of explaining why it's important for everyone to fuel their bodies with nutrient-rich foods as well as getting out of their seat to be active every day! Using new leadership and demonstration skills they garnered while at the Michigan Fuel Up to Play 60 - Rally for School Health Event at Ford Field, the student team led 3rd - 6th grade students through several different physical activity games. Everyone left the gym feeling pumped up and excited about participating in the program!
How did students and adults work together as a team?
The student team and their coach worked together to design the Power Point presentation, decide which physical activity games they were going to play, and practiced together several times before presenting to the school. While led by the coach, the student team was responsible for coming up with ideas and sharing their experiences and new information with the rest of the school.
