From Seed to Plant to Table

A group of students worked on a project in which they learned the importance of informing other students on how to grown their own produce and live off the land. They also had a chance to grow their own herbs, plants and vegetables and try recipes to make new meals that they had never tasted before. In this project, our school developed an interest in building our own school garden that could be used year 'round in lessons and activities throughout instruction.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

We are now writing grants to help us build a year 'round school garden that all students and staff can enjoy.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

The students in the project worked with their principal and collaborated on ideas to reuse, reduce and recycle current waste in the school cafeteria. They came up with recycling biodegradable foods that were not being consumed by students and made a compost pile that was used to fertilize the soil where they planted seeds for their garden.

How did you accomplish your goals?

The group of students learned many valuable lessons and the biggest one was that they could bring farming into the school through building a year round school garden.
