From Walking Club to Jogging Club

Our county has started a cross country program for elementary students. In this program, students practice at their home schools jogging and then compete throughout the school year against other county schools. This all started as walking clubs throughout the county when we first embraced the Fuel Up To Play 60 program. The interest in the cross country team at our school is bigger than we had imagined. We hope to expand the program to include more students next year.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

With student interest in the cross country program has come a lot of parental involvement and support. Parents are providing healthy snacks to the team after practices and meets. Also, the parent support at the meets exceeded our expectations.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

Our school's WOW Club (Work Out Wednesday) will practice and compete throughout the school year. As stated earlier, the program has gotten off to a great start this year. Student and parental support is very high. We hope to build off the momentum next year by including more students.
