Fruit and Smoothie Bar

Thanks to Fuel Up to Play 60 funding we have been able to increase the number of 4/5 grade students eating breakfast at school. In the past three years, we have used the funding to get an outdoor breakfast area near the upper-grade wing of our school. This year we have added serving tables and a hand washing station so that we can implement a fruit taste test and smoothie bar. Students have been introduced to star fruit and kiwi and created smoothies that included cucumber, banana, coconut water, yogurt, and strawberries. The students are looking forward to our next taste test day.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

Students and community volunteers prepared and served the items for the fruit bar. Students prepared and serve the smoothies to their classmates.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

The school district's food service department fully supports the project and will be supplying the fruit and vegetables once the taste test dollars from Fuel Up to Play 60 have been spent.
