Fruit March Madness

This schoolwide initiative through Fuel Up to Play 60 (FUTP 60) at Greenfield Elementary School and Harlan Elementary School consists of food tastings each day. The students then vote in their classrooms and our PE teachers get the results. Winners will advance to the next round for more tastings! Outside of the cafeteria, students are busy learning the basics of basketball in PE to stay active! After two weeks of taste tests, watermelon won at both schools!! Additionally, the amount of both fruits and vegetables taken from children that purchase lunch increased.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

Our FUTP 60 team helped out at each lunch period that our Fruit March Madness samplings were scheduled for. The students would make sure that each student had a sample and encouraged them to vote in their classrooms. The adults would help with all the fruit preparation and cutting into bite-size pieces.

What improvements have you seen at your school?

The amount of both fruits and vegetables taken by students has increased in our cafeterias!
