Access to Healthy Foods,  Student Leadership

Students at St. Francis of Assisi Elementary School in Manitowoc, WI capped off a week filled with healthful announcements and posters encouraging students to try new foods with awarding stickers in the cafeteria. 4th grade FUTP 60 team researched interesting and ear catching facts about fruits and vegetables and volunteered to read them on the morning announcements all week long! Students from the team also created colorful and fact filled posters that were hung throughout the school to remind students to try new foods all week long. Our 4th grade Fuel Up to Play 60 team came to the cafeteria during lunch time and rewarded each student with a sticker that stated, "I tried something new today" as an incentive for everyone fulfilling their goal. It was awesome to see so many students committing to trying something new to help their bodies be healthy!

How did you accomplish your goals?

Our team goal was to have students at our school be more aware of the benefits of fruits and vegetables and to try these foods during lunch time. By teaching students new, fun facts about fruits and vegetables over the announcements we made the students think about these foods. Hanging posters throughout the school helped our students remember our goal. Being rewarded with a sticker for trying the foods was an incentive for fulfilling the goal and also encouraged everyone to participate
