Fuel Up for Football

Our elementary school held a community event to get kids moving! January in Iowa can make it tough to get in enough exercise. We held our first ever all-school football event at Bowman Woods Elementary for grades K-5. Families were invited to attend. At the event, we engaged high school football players and cheerleaders. The football players and cheerleaders ran drills with the kids to teach them about sports and to get in some awesome exercise!

How did students and adults work together as a team?

The PTO provided community volunteers. Coaches were contacted about providing players to come and volunteer their time too. At the event, we were lucky enough to have six high school football players and four cheerleaders to work with the kids.

How did you accomplish your goals?

Lori Sipper was the organizer of the event. She coordinated with the PTO, the high school football, and cheerleading coaches. She also received financial support from Thrivent and Fuel Up to Play 60 gear from Midwest Dairy.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

We plan to host this event again next year and make it even better! We are working with Linn-Mar school administration to be the first school in the district who participates in Fuel Up to Play 60.
