The students at Columbine Elementary are participating in a "get active at recess" by walking/jogging/running during their recess. A 400-meter track around the perimeter of the playground was made. Student participation ranges from 50% to 100% in my classes. My student leaders monitor running at recess. I had expectations of developing an increased sensitivity to more exercise and healthy food choices and that has happened. The added benefit blew me away. Teachers reported that FUTP 60 was reducing behavior problems at recess. The students are putting more energy into exercise (and feeling accomplishment!) and less on the social challenges!
