Blackshere Elementary’s Fuel Up to Play 60 team members celebrated eating nutritional foods by having a Mexican-themed Taste Test for all third and fourth grade students. Our multipurpose room was transformed into a Mexican atmosphere by decorating tables with colorful table coverings and sombreros, along with a decorative stage surrounding our projection screen which displayed each recipe that was demonstrated by our students. We concluded with a piñata contest for each class. It was a BLAST!
How did students and adults work together as a team?
Our Fuel Up to Play 60 Team consists of 13 fourth grade students that serve as advocates for our school. These students meet weekly with me, the Program Advisor, to plan events representing FUTP 60. Our team comes up with ideas that they feel students would learn from and the adults (Advisor, staff, parents) try to make it possible. These team members have become leaders in our school. They interview our principal, staff members, and students to get feedback necessary for our program.
