Fuel Up to Play 60 at Chapel Hill Middle School

Michael Harris ,   Chapel Hill Middle School
All In, All Abilities — Activate Your School!
The partnership between the NFL and Fuel Up to Play 60 gave our students more opportunities to be physically active and to "Play 60" by offering PE teachers and school administrators the equipment, curriculum, training and recognition they needed to uplift and support our physical education program. Results for the 2018-2019 school term will include: Using the NFL Play - 60 Kits in PE class last semester At least 89% of students will use the NFL Play 60 kits during sporting activities 88% will use the Kits after school, leading to an increased number of physical activity for our student body. Fuel Up to Play 60 will increase our in-school nutrition and physical activity programs, this will be accomplished by launching our team of volunteers in the Decatur Community. Fuel Up to Play 60 will engage and empower our community's youth to take action for their own health by implementing long-term positive changes for themselves and their families. The program's adult volunteers will encourage youth to consume nutrient-rich foods (low-fat and fat-free dairy, fruits, vegetables and whole grains) and achieve at least 60 minutes of physical activity every day. As a result of this initiative, students will make better food choices and are getting more physically active during the school day. On behalf of Southeast United Dairy Industry Association, Inc., we are pleased to inform you that Chapel Hill Middle School's application for Funds for Fuel Up to Play 60 for the 2017 - 2018 school term has been approved. Funding for our application has been generously provided by Southeast United Dairy Industry Association, Inc. in the amount of $3,800.00.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

The program is designed to provide young people at Chapel Hill Middle School with the positive benefits of educational tutoring, cultural enrichment, environmental awareness, social responsibility, nutrition, healthy eating, exercise, and sports. Students will have the opportunity to observe others on the high school, college, and professional levels utilizing mental and physical talents to accomplish goals.

How did you accomplish your goals?

NFL Fuel Up to Play 60 Kickoff teamed up with Freddie the Falcon, Atlanta Falcon Cheerleaders, Miss Georgia Latina Michele Williams-Castillo, Former Atlanta Falcon Ovie Mughelli, Former Atlanta Falcon Chuck Wiley Jr, and (a surprise) Falcon player sent by NFL Play 60 for having the event before the deadline.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

Student Ambassadors will be chosen within the Student Council who embody a healthy lifestyle. They will lead the Fuel Up to Play 60 team in making posters on the benefits of breakfast and making announcements on healthy eating and Brain Breaks.
