We completed our kickoff on November 4, 2016. We did a healthy food bar and we offered chocolate spinach smoothies, red pears, grapes, carrots, and apples. The students were excited and reluctant to try new things but they did. I had one student come to me and tell me that the smoothie was good. I felt good that we were able to try new things that are better choices while having fun doing it. The students took a survey and stated they wanted to incorporate this each month.
How did students and adults work together as a team?
I had staff members that saw a need and jumped in to assist. For example, the lines were getting long at the table and someone came to direct the students.
What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?
We were short with help and we had two stations so we had a lot of running back and forth to get refills on the samples. We had others assist with organizing students and one student recruited another to help them.
How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?
We plan to implement the healthy food each month by asking for staff donations and fundraising.
