Breakfast For Everyone — First Meal Matters

Access to Healthy Foods
After surveying parents, students, and community, breakfast is now being offered to any and all students free of charge each day. Our number of students participating in free breakfast has doubled and this also allows them to take any food leftover from breakfast to have as a healthy snack during round up time, which is mid-morning. We all know students who eat breakfast and are meeting their daily food/water intake perform better in the classroom! This was beneficial not only for our free and reduced lunch students but a lot of others that may have been rushed or late in the morning and didn't have anything for breakfast, forgot to get breakfast, or weren't hungry before they left for school. A great initiative to get students off to the right start every morning!

How did students and adults work together as a team?

Teachers motivated students to take advantage of eating breakfast. Kids like it because they get more social time with their friends.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

We continuously remind students to go to breakfast even if they're not hungry and keep it as their snack for later in the day. Better to be prepared.

What improvements have you seen at your school?

The number of students having breakfast has rapidly increased. Students are also having healthier snacks during round up time.
