We started a remote breakfast location a few years ago with the Fuel up funds. It started slow the first year, and got a little better last year, but something was missing. Our students got together with the cafe' manager and talked about better menu options and what supplies they might need to better serve in the remote location. This year the fuel up team worked on promoting the breakfast the first few weeks of school and now we have standing room only just about everyday in our outdoor location. We have ordered more tables and may possible be getting a second cafe staff member out to help! Way to take the lead fuel up to play 60 student ambassadors!
How did students and adults work together as a team?
Our students worked with administration and cafe staff to find better options for food choices and transportation to the outdoor breakfast location. The students lead the charge to get more people to eat breakfast!
How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?
Now that the breakfast location is such a big hit, we plan to order more tables and upgrade some of the serving options to help make this program bigger each year.
What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?
Our biggest challenge was getting students to come eat breakfast. They wanted to stay on the courts with their friends and socialize. Now that we have a location right next to the courts, the students can still see their friends on the courts plus eat and socialize. Getting the word out was the biggest challenge. Our kick-off with a photo booth and other give aways really helped sell the program.
