Brighter Bites is the Healthy Way!
Our Healthy Zone Team volunteered to pass out fresh vegetables and produce every week for sixteen weeks. We were able to pass out bags to over 300 families every week, as well as recipes for healthy cooking. We also had taste tests every week, so kids and their families could sample healthy food choices.

How did you accomplish your goals?

Wow! Brighter Bites is at our school and let us pass out over 397 bags of fresh fruit and veggies every Tuesday for our entire community to pick up. Kids and their parents can sample healthy recipes, too! Kids everywhere can eat fresh and healthy foods!

How did students and adults work together as a team?

It took a long time to fill the bags, but we had 30 volunteers each week to unload the pallets then get in an assembly line to fill the bags. Once filled, parents and students from our community could each come and get two bags full of fruit and veggies! We all worked together as a team, and learned that when we work together, we accomplish our goals a lot quicker. The students never seemed to run out of energy!

What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?

Some challenges we faced were getting enough volunteers to help us. Even if we had the food, it's hard to get it all passed out if we don't have enough helpers. So, one day, we wrote out a plea for volunteers on big anchor chart paper and wore the posters on our bodies outside at pick up time to recruit volunteers. We always had plenty of help after that day!
