During our Kick-off Event on September 28th, we had a guest speaker from the Finney County Extension Office come and talk about healthy choices for snacking. She brought examples and then discussed the nutrition in the items and the kids made choices about which would be healthy. This was one of many centers that day. The rest of them involved physical movement such as flag tag, equipment relay, GoNoodle etc.
We had 13 members of the local junior college Women's Basketball team here to help us with our activities. The coach is trying to set up a school night for us to attend one of their games at the college.
How did students and adults work together as a team?
The students worked with our volunteer to pick the snack that would be healthy and why it was the best choice.
How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?
We plan on doing some healthy eating activities at our school's Family/Literacy night this fall. We will also be having Ag Day on November 2nd. We will have local farmers come and tell about their crops and what foods are made from them that are healthy.
What improvements have you seen at your school?
I feel as if the students are making better choices during lunch. They are choosing fruits and vegetables because of our efforts over the last few years of reminding them to make healthy choices.
