Awesome Recess Fun!
The FUTP 60 Student Committee took the initiative to survey our students to see what activities they would like to participate in for recess. When all of the data was gathered, the committee got to work. We met with our principal to propose our plan for painting activities on our blacktop, building gaga pits and refurbishing a baseball field to become our kickball area. Once we got Principal and Buildings and Grounds approval, a letter was sent out all students and parents to come help on a Saturday and some of the committee wrote a letter to Home Depot to see if they would donate materials for our projects. Here are some of the results! (See attached picture.) We completed 4 square courts, hopscotch and shapes for skip counting. We are finishing up our gaga pits and with some of our fundraising money purchased Can Jam, and Corn Hole. The students have been having an awesome time with our Recess Refresh.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

The parents and students volunteered on a Saturday to come to school and paint 4 square, hopscotch and shapes on our black top play areas.

What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?

We had to reschedule several times due to rain and then ended up working on a 94 degree day, but everyone persevered and the results were awesome!

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

We have extra paint to touch up if needed and plan to add to the activities that we have painted by applying for a FUTP 60 grant to purchase more stencils and paint.
