Recess Refresh — It's Not so Elementary!
Topics:
Our FUTP 60 Ambassadors are working with our PTO to suggest ways to improve our recess areas. We hope to have more 4-Square areas painted and more equipment. Our teacher assistants, PE teacher and principal are attending Recess Rocks Training. Recess Rocks in RI – a free training program for RI elementary schools that helps get kids more active, improve school culture, enhance classroom learning, and help children lead healthier lives!

How did students and adults work together as a team?

Our Ambassadors are working with the advisers, principal and PTO to collaborate and determine what is realistic and within our financial capacity to improve our recess areas.

What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?

Money is needed to make improvements and that is why we are appealing to the PTO for help. Blue Cross and Blue Shield are providing $7500. to train staff in the Recess Rocks program to improve school climate and kindness.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

Equipment and improvements to recess areas will last for awhile. Teacher assistants, PE teacher and Principal will carry on the skills learned in Recess Rocks Training.
