Community Involvement

Our students hosted our annual District Community Health Fair. Our students plan and implement all aspects of the fair that involve all schools in our entire district. Each school is responsible for a healthy eating or physical activity booth. We invite community partners, guest speakers, and the entire community to participate at the fair. It is our way of showing our community how to bring families together and ideas of how to keep them healthy.

How did you accomplish your goals?

Communication was the key to organizing our event. Our students were in constant contact with participating schools and community partners. We met constantly and made sure everyone was given all important information.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

Our goal is to continue to host this annual event. We feel that it is important to gather the community together and continue teaching them the importance of living a healthy lifestyle. We would like to keep the communication with our community partners and hopefully will be able to find the funding to host this event.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

The students planned and implemented the entire event. They contacted our community partners and schools and informed them of our needs and deadlines. Our adults simply submitted paperwork, reserved the event area, submitted orders, and advised when needed. But other than the paperwork, the students organized the booths, mapped everything out, and made sure every booth had what they needed.
