Our kickoff took place at the start of January. Our school has been involved in the program for many years, but this was my second year coordinating the program for our school. The kickoff was a day-long event and all students had the opportunity to participate. It was a combination of different challenges that included nutrition learning stations. The students participated at a very high level and were extremely excited about the event. Students had the opportunity to make posters that were informative for the student body to know how important it is to eat fruits and vegetables every day, as well as sign the pledge to be active and eat healthy. During the kickoff, students had the opportunity to set up their Fuel Up To Play 60 accounts and start their challenges. The students were very surprised to see that some of the challenges they were already involved in. As time went on during the year, I noticed that students were very motivated in making sure their teachers and peers were following nutrition guidelines with lunches while at school.
How did students and adults work together as a team?
Teamwork was demonstrated by our students and staff as we pulled together to kick off and implement our program. Each station during the event had a student and staff member responsible for the area. I am very grateful for this year's experience for our students and staff working together to help the program be a success for our school. I am looking forward to next year’s event and students who will receive wonderful opportunities through the program.
