Physical Activity Participation,  Teamwork

Throughout our school, we have limited time to participate in physical activity other than the regular gym period. I took out parts of my curriculum to best fit the needs of my students and keep them active. In my kindergarten class, we use teamwork and physical activity participation daily. Every day we have a dance break where students free dance to random songs and get active by doing sit-ups, push-ups, and planking. More recently, we used these physical activities to create a YouTube video of our athletics and support of such a great program like Fuel Up to Play 60!

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

Throughout this school year and next, I plan to continue to incorporate this active movement as it allows kids to focus better and remain on-task for longer periods of time.

What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?

A challenge we faced was getting students to participate in various physical activities in which some are not the most preferred for some students. To overcome this obstacle, we created all activities on popsicle sticks and pick one each day.
