At Ridgewood Middle School, we have a Fuel Up to Play 60 Committee of students. This group of students decided they wanted to start a school newspaper that can be accessed from the school's website. After creating the website, they wanted to write and post articles on healthy eating ideas and exercise tips. Their purpose was to get out information to the students and the community about healthy recipes that students like to eat and fun activities that families could do together at home.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

First the students and I (their teacher/Program Advisor) sat down and organized all of their ideas and came up with a game plan to present to the principals. Then they presented their ideas and received permission to start their school newspaper.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

I believe this plan will last for many years because this was their idea and there are students from both 7th and 8th grade in the committee, so next year we have students who can share this idea with the upcoming 7th graders.
