In-Class Physical Activity Breaks — Good For Mind and Body

Physical Activity Participation
Eigith grade math work at times can get pretty intense and one of our teachers implements daily class stretching in between teaching and working on new math concepts. Mrs. Abrego has helped engage and retain the concentration of the children by allowing them time to get up and shake off/stretch any stress or tiredness that comes with intense training of the mind!

How did students and adults work together as a team?

She showed them that she does understand when they get tired during classwork and allows them to refresh the mind and body. In turn, the students give her their full attention when it's time to work. Pretty much like a give and take system they created in their classroom.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

I am hoping that other teachers will see the progress this class has made and how allowing the students some physical activity during class time does help them during the learning process.

What improvements have you seen at your school?

Students talk about how much fun they have in their math class now that they know they can refresh during class if needed.
