Using fun activities and interesting guest speakers like a nutrition specialist to speak to our Physical Education classes about the 4 food groups, we have been able to get students to look at healthy foods in a different way. The nutrition teacher spoke to classes about different dairy products and the ways that they provide nutrients for the body while providing the students with some blueberry and strawberry parfaits. We also had a obstacle course that had some Dairy trivia questions that not only the students participated in but members of the community were welcomed to come and enjoy the fun. Prizes were given out along with snacks like parfaits, cheese strings, and granola bars. If we keep up the momentum and we are on our way to having a very Healthy school.
How did students and adults work together as a team?
We came together and made an obstacle course featuring various physical activities and some Dairy trivia questions. Snacks like Parfaits, cheese string, and granola bars were also provided. Students worked different stations of the obstacle course and gave away prizes to participants.
How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?
Continued meetings with the cafeteria manger and nutritionist in order to get more dairy products on the school menu, and continued lessons on nutrition will help make this a new norm in our school. We will also keep promoting healthy eating by doing various activities that feature healthy foods and, of course, our students will continue to be role models.
