FUTP 60 Assembly

Becky Keely,   Meadow Lane Elementary School
Student Leadership

Our leadership team created an assembly to promote the kick-off of FUTP 60 and promote healthy snacking. They invited a parent who is a registered dietitian to speak about healthy snack options. The kids created a skit and taught a fun dance to a healthy eating song. Our school mascot (Mighty the Mustang) put on a FUTP 60 shirt and threw out FUTP 60 prizes to the crowd to get everyone excited!

Finally, the team took photos of healthy things and posters from around our school and made a video to show. It also included photos of people making healthy choices at recess and at home. They worked hard and made a lot of good points to our whole school about snacking healthy and exercising!

How did students and adults work together as a team?

My team came up with the ideas and I helped group them to make it work. Their classroom teachers were flexible to let them work on the project at certain times.

How did you accomplish your goals?

We had to plan an assembly time with the school and then coordinate with our dietitian who came for it. Then we had to make sure things got done in time by checking in with each other!

What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?

The kids had SO MANY ideas that it made a challenge to narrow it down. We had to take each idea and see if it would really work with our time frame and available resources.
