Garden Pizza
The Little Sprouts/FUTP 60 gardeners planted a vegetable garden in the fall. The students have worked weekly to care for the needs of the garden, including weeding, transplanting, fertilizing and harvesting the plants. This spring, the tomatoes and herbs were harvested, and pizza sauce was made. The students made pizzas and enjoyed the fruits of their labor.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

The adults and students worked side by side in the garden. Students prepared the soil, planted the seeds, and sprouts. The students go to the garden during recess, and take care of watering, and weeding. During school holiday breaks, the adults were responsible for the garden.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

The boxes are there, so they can be reused year after year. The herbs are thriving, so they can be transplanted and will continue to thrive.

What improvements have you seen at your school?

The students are more willing to try new vegetables, such as Brussels sprouts, and the herbs, since they were involved in growing them.
