Garden to School at Longfellow Elementary

This past summer, our school planted its first garden. In August, the Fuel Up to Play 60 leadership team, along with our garden team, put together a taste test for grades 3, 4, and 5. The students got to taste fresh zucchini with ranch dressing and cucumber pickles, made fresh by the the garden team. The sample tasting was a huge success and we hope to offer more produce next summer.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

This Play will be used this full school year and into the next because of the continued commitment by our school and staff to continue the garden. The first year there is a lot to learn about a school garden.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

Students and adults helped get the produce from the garden. Students and staff helped prepare the produce and FUTP 60 leaders and staff helped with the sampling during lunch. It was a total school effort by the many involved.
