Gateway Gets Going

My students began the activity in January and got involved. We meet 3 mornings a week before school. Some students signed up but the interest just wasn't there. Other students got into it, and rain or shine they were waiting for me to arrive to school so they could get started. A group was there all the time and before I knew it, the group got larger just by the students talking about it. Some of those students have gone home and now they have their parents involved in walking with them at home and on the weekends. The kids like meeting in the morning and staying active. They set competitions for themselves while doing the activity. I'm really proud of them with their continued interest and extended it to home with their parents.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

I plan on continuing this activity every year and throughout the entire school year. Get the message out at the beginning of the school year to get more students involved and hopefully get teachers more involved where they come out in the mornings and do the activity with their entire class.

What improvements have you seen at your school?

I've seen more acceptance to exercise, by running and walking. Others students are catching on as well.
